Singer's Formant Cluster
From Vocapedia
This is the approved revision of this page, as well as being the most recent.
A formant grouping created by clustering the third, fourth and fifth vocal tract resonances together within a narrower frequency range, approximately around 2300–3500Hz. This clustering provides amplification of the harmonics within this range. It is thought that this is a result of narrowing the epilaryngeal tube exit relative to laryngo–pharyngeal openness. This allows the voice to project through the masking effect of an orchestra (or other accompaniment) on spectral content below ca. 500Hz.[1]
