Schwa

A mid-central vowel, in which the tongue is placed neither high nor low and the lips are relaxed; also called the neutral vowel. Schwa is common to many Western languages, such as in the English word “the,” the second syllable in the German word “liebe” and the second syllable in the French word “entre.” In linguistics, noted by the IPA symbol | ɘ |.[1]
