A reference to the typical gap in the posterior third of the glottis in the adolescent voice. The mutational chink is typical of changing voices during puberty. It results in a necessarily breathy tone, and is the result of the fast changes in the proportions of the laryngeal structures during adolescence. See also chink but note the preferred term is gap or glottal gap.[1]
