Primarily to contract and effect movement. Principle functions include cooperative agonist and antagonist pairings, e.g., biceps and triceps for bending our arm, the cricothyroids and thyroarytenoids for pitch control. Muscles may also serve stabilizing functions to facilitate action, e.g., postural stabilization to support respiratory action.[1]
