Front-Back Vowel Dimension

A description either of a physical articulatory characteristic (a fronted tongue hump versus a tongue hump further back), or of an acoustic characteristic (a sound with a high second formant and stronger high partials, i.e., a front vowel; or a low second formant and weaker high partials and potentially stronger low partials, i.e., a back vowel).[1]
