The rate at which something occurs or is repeated over a particular period of time; the rate at which a vibration occurs that constitutes a wave, as in sound waves. A single frequency is referred to as a sine tone; most sounds are composed of multiple frequencies; clearly pitched tones contain a harmonic set of frequencies, all of which are multiples of the lowest, fundamental frequency.[1]
