Executive Function

Refers to a complex cognitive construct underlying controlled goal-directed responses to novel or difficult situations. Executive functions coordinate goal-directed behavior and mediate conscious experience. They are characterized by novelty, choice, and the ability to voluntarily influence consciously and unconsciously mediated actions.[1]
