Refers to the upper boundaries of the larynx, consisting of the aryepiglottic folds and the structures of the epiglottis. The collar of the larynx can be narrowed somewhat, which affects the ratio of its diameter to the diameter of the laryngopharynx, the larger tube within which the smaller laryngeal tube is situated. See aryepiglottic sphincter.[1]
